Evaluation
LIIAR Analysis:
Language: The format of my magazine is that of a college magazine, the name of the college (Wyke) in the masthead (convention) makes this apparent. I used the image of Josh (student in my year) as my magazine model, he isn't holding a folder and a note pad, this strengthens the college magazine genre and makes it even more apparent. The sell lines I used are things that would concern students giving advice on this like "helpful tips to deal with" exam stress. The positioning of the camera means that my model can look straight through it as if it is only looking at the reader of the magazine.
Institution: The institution for this magazine would be Wyke College as that is where I produced the magazine itself. This magazine could be used to interest more people to come to college or persuade students to take on board the message behind the magazine as a whole.
Ideology: The ideology/message here is that education is good and positive, this can be shown by how my model is smiling in the image, this shows that he is happy at Wyke college and happy with his choice of education.
Audience: The audience of my magazine is students, on average, 16-18 years old. This target audience is suitable for my magazine as it targets the majority age in the college making everything that is included in the magazine. Also the message I am trying to put across with my college magazine is that education is positive and good, this audience is who needs to know this.
Representation: The model I used represents my audience that I am targeting to sell my magazine to. It represents all of the students at Wyke and shows them to be happy. My model also represents the institution in terms of making people want to come to college, because if my model is happy it will persuade other people to come to the college because they would want to be happy like the model on the front cover of the college's magazine.
What would I change?: If I was to change/edit my college magazine cover I would probably change a few things. The first thing I would is my title, I would change the font size of my title so that it overhangs my main image in more of a conventional way. The second thing i would change is the brightness of the yellow used for the colour of my sell lines because at the moment they are quite blurry and dull and they don't stand out. The biggest thing i would change is the background location, i would change this to be more recognizable and inside the actual college and not outside.
How was Photoshop?: Photoshop, at first, was very difficult in the process of making my college magazine because I had never used the software before, even now I still don't have the hang of it. I would like to use it more.
